Crowns, Bridges, Inlays & Onlays Gold Coast

When you’re missing teeth, it’s hard to think about anything else.

Not only can missing teeth make you feel self-conscious, but simple everyday actions like chewing, smiling, and speaking can feel harder too.

If you’re missing one or more teeth and you want a dental restoration that’s fast and effective – a dental crown, dental bridge, inlay, or onlay could be right for you!

Dental restorations – explained.

Dental crowns, dental bridges, inlays, and onlays are all types of dental restorations designed to correct or replace missing, damaged, or decayed teeth.

Now made from the highest quality, modern glass-ceramic (also known as porcelain) these dental restorations are used by your holistic dentist to match the aesthetics and functional properties of your natural teeth.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped restoration sometimes called a “cap” that is either placed on top of a natural tooth or attached to a dental implant.

When secured in place, a dental crown covers the biting surface of the tooth and often the rest of the tooth visible above the gum line.

Dental Crowns are best suited for:

Anyone with one or more damaged teeth, looking to repair the shape and strength of their smile. Crowns are also considered by individuals with one or more missing teeth, looking for a permanent, natural-looking tooth replacement option (when paired with a dental implant).

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a tooth replacement option designed to replace one or more missing teeth – restoring your bite and keeping the natural shape of your smile. This treatment is a relatively quick (often same day) and non-surgical option that uses the teeth beside your missing tooth foundational supports.

All ceramic options (metal free) are often available and recommended. Most of our dental bridges are made in house using same day digital 3D CADCAM dentistry.

Dental Bridges are best for:

Dental bridges are excellent for a quick, long lasting outcome. They can be particularly useful if the teeth each side of a gap area are already heavily filled. Additionally, they are attractive as a largely non-surgical option.

Typically, dental bridges can be slightly more affordable than implants; requiring fewer trips to your local Burleigh dentist (sometimes even just one visit with Heal Dental Care’s same-day crown and bridge procedures.)

Types of Dental Bridges include:

  • Traditional bridge: A traditional dental bridge is a common solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. It involves creating dental crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap where the missing tooth once was. These crowns serve as anchors or abutments to support the replacement tooth, also known as a pontic, which is held securely in place between them.
  • Cantilever bridge: Similar to a traditional bridge, a cantilever bridge also replaces a missing tooth by anchoring it to adjacent teeth. However, unlike a traditional bridge where the replacement tooth is supported by crowns on both sides, a cantilever bridge only relies on one adjacent tooth for support. This type of bridge is suitable when there is only one adjacent tooth available next to the gap.
  • Maryland bridge: Also known as a resin-bonded bridge, the Maryland bridge offers a conservative option for replacing a missing tooth. Instead of using crowns to support the pontic, this type of bridge utilises metal or porcelain wings, also called “wings,” which are bonded to the back of the adjacent teeth on either side of the gap. These wings are then attached to the replacement tooth, holding it securely in place.
  • Implant bridge: An implant bridge is a durable and long-lasting solution for replacing multiple missing teeth or even an entire arch. Unlike traditional bridges that rely on adjacent teeth for support, an implant bridge utilises dental implants as anchors. Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to mimic the roots of natural teeth. Once the implants have integrated with the bone, ceramic or porcelain replacement teeth are attached to them, creating a stable and functional set of teeth. Implant bridges offer several advantages, including improved jawbone health, enhanced stability, and a natural-looking smile. They are an ideal option for patients with multiple missing teeth or those seeking a permanent tooth replacement solution.

Inlays and Onlays

In dentistry, inlays and onlays are single, solid pieces that have been designed to fit the specific shape and size of the cavity in your tooth (caused by damage or decay). The main difference between an inlay and an onlay is the amount of the tooth that they cover. An inlay is designed to replicate the pits and fissures of your tooth on the chewing surface between the cusps (the biting surfaces of the teeth). Onlays are similar but with one or more cusp being covered.

Due to the era of adhesive ceramic dentistry, material and bonding advances many teeth which previously needed to be crowned can now have an onlay instead preserving a large amount of tooth structure.

Inlays and Onlays are best for:

Anyone whose tooth is decayed or damaged to the extent that their dentist would advise that a dental filling would not meet the structural integrity required to withstand bite forces. Typically used on molars and premolars.

Inlays mirror the pits and fissures of your tooth between the cusps. Onlays mirror the same chewing surface but also cover one or more cusps. If all of the cups of a tooth are covered, it is known as a dental crown.

These restorations are valued because of their high bio-compatibility and strength. Dental inlays and onlays are often used as replacements to old mercury fillings.

Same-day Dental Crowns and Bridges

Traditionally, porcelain or ceramic restorations are fabricated in a laboratory, often created thousands of miles away overseas. In fact, at some dental practices, it’s not uncommon to have your dental impressions sent from Queensland to China and back again for a final result. This presents a costs environmentally, timewise and financially.

Your new dental crown is designed digitally by the same dentist who prepared your tooth. It just makes sense! With our state-of-the-art CAD-CAM system (similar to a 3D printer) we now scan your teeth optically instead of using old wasteful rubber impressions and create custom-made ceramic crowns and bridges on the spot. No need for temporary crowns, no need for multiple visits, and no need to harm the environment with throw away silicone moulds. This cutting edge technology, or as we like to call it “same-day crown and bridge technology” is at the forefront of modern dentistry, and we’ve mastered it because we understand that your time is precious. At Heal Dental Care, you can walk in with a problem and walk out with a solution in a single day.

Alternatively, should your case require a dental restoration beyond our abilities on-site, our Burleigh dentists choose to use only Australian laboratories and dental manufacturers, because we believe in supporting the Australian economy and keeping business at home.

Why ceramic is better

At Heal Dental Care, we use only the highest grade porcelain (ceramic) to replicate the aesthetics and functional characteristics of your damaged teeth – making it feel as though they were never broken, decayed or missing in the first place.

In fact, porcelain is considered the material of choice among dentists because of its extremely strong, biocompatible, and natural-looking properties. Also, it has high wear resistance, does not corrode, and has no cathodic (electrical) interaction with the body.

Mercury fillings and metal-based crowns are a thing of the past.

Thanks to advancements in ceramic dental materials, mercury fillings, crowns and bridges are truly a thing of the past. Now, you don’t have to settle for a mouth full of metal and you don’t have to wait 2-3 weeks for a dental crown or dental bridge to ease your aching mouth. Our clinic utilises equipment like the CEREC Omnicam, lasers, and VITA Furnacing to create exceptional quality ceramic restorations, which are superior to regular fillings.

It’s all in the details

No one can see the details quite like you, and we know that. That’s why when it comes to colour-matching crowns or sculpting the final fissures of an inlay, our Burleigh dentists obsess over the smallest details to give you a dental solution will last. At Heal Dental Care, our passion for details drives our dentistry. We win when we see you winning – smiling, eating, and talking with ease.
