What is All-on-X?

All-on-X is a revolutionary dental implant technique that involves securing a full arch of replacement teeth using a minimal number of strategically placed implants. The “X” in All-on-X signifies the flexibility in the number of implants used, tailored to the unique needs and bone structure of each patient. Typically, four to six implants per arch provide the foundation for a new, fixed dental prosthesis.

How Does the All-on-X Procedure Work?

  • Comprehensive Consultation and Planning: We start with an in-depth consultation to understand your dental health, needs, and goals. Advanced imaging technology is used to assess your bone density and structure, ensuring precise planning for implant placement.
  • Customised Treatment Plan: Based on your specific anatomy and requirements, we’ll develop a personalised treatment plan. This plan includes the optimal number of implants and their placement to provide maximum stability and support for your new teeth, whilst leveraging your existing bone levels.
  • Implant Placement: During the implant surgery, the implants are carefully placed into the jawbone. These implants act as secure anchors for the prosthetic teeth. In many cases, a temporary set of teeth can be issued the same day, allowing you to leave with a functional smile immediately.
  • Healing and Osseointegration: Over the next few months, the implants will integrate with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This forms a strong, permanent foundation for the final set of teeth.
  • Final Restoration: Once healing is complete, your custom-made final prosthesis is attached to the implants. These teeth are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth, giving you a beautiful and durable smile.

Types of All-on-X Treatment

There are two main variants; Removable (also known as implant over dentures) and Fixed. Each patient’s individual circumstances will determine their suitability for either a fixed or removable implant prosthesis.

Removable

The most common type of implant supported teeth for full arches can actually come in and out of the mouth. Don’t worry, the teeth are very secure. They actually clip on and off the dental implants.

Teeth sit in a prosthesis which looks like a denture; in fact many dentures can be modified to be supported by implants to stop them “slipping and sliding” around. The advantage of removable teeth on implants is that the underside of the teeth and the connection to the implants can both be cleaned. This helps reduces the risk of long term complications like infection, bone loss and lost implants due to buildup of plaque.

Fixed

A rigid solution for teeth on dental implants is also available. Fixed All-on-X. Aside from never removing your teeth, this option can be faster and have a reduced healing time due to the way the teeth are fixed to the dental implants at the time of surgery.

In most cases where teeth have been missing for some time a fake gum is attached; however in some instances it is possible to maintain the natural gum of the patient with Immediate Implant Treatment. This approach can be used for single teeth or multiple teeth. Immediate means that the dental implants are placed at the same visit where the teeth are removed.

It’s important to keep in mind while planning for dental implants that there are many patient specific factors to take into consideration. Bone level/density, medical history, smoking, age and hygiene all influence the type of implant treatment your dentist can perform. Make sure to seek advice which is specific to your situation with a qualified and experienced dentist before committing to a type of implant rehabilitation.

Benifits of All-on-X

The All-on-X system offers numerous advantages over traditional dentures and other implant methods:

  • Stability and Security: Unlike dentures that can slip or shift, All-on-X implants provide a stable and secure fit, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
  • Bone Preservation: Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, helping to prevent the bone loss that typically occurs with missing teeth or long-term denture use.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The prosthetic teeth attached to the implants are custom-crafted to match your natural teeth, offering a highly aesthetic and natural-looking appearance.
  • Immediate Results: Many patients can receive temporary teeth on the same day as their implant surgery, minimising the time spent without functional teeth.
  • Longevity: With proper care, All-on-X implants can last a lifetime, making them a cost-effective, long-term solution.
  • Improved Quality of Life: Enjoy the freedom to eat your favourite foods, speak clearly, and smile without worry. All-on-X restores full oral function and comfort.

Who is a Good Candidate for All-on-X?

All-on-X is ideal for individuals who are missing most or all of their teeth in an arch and desire a permanent, fixed solution. This includes:

  • Denture Wearers: Those who are tired of the discomfort and inconvenience of traditional dentures.
  • Severe Tooth Loss: Patients with significant tooth loss due to decay, disease, or trauma who are seeking a more permanent and natural-feeling alternative.
  • Adequate Bone Structure: Candidates should have sufficient bone density to support the implants, though bone grafting can be an option for those with lower bone volume.

At Heal Dental Care, we will conduct a thorough assessment to determine if dental implants or All-on-X treatment is suitable for your dental health and aesthetic goals.
