No amount of money should come between you and your child’s health. Thankfully, with the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, none has to.
Beginning in January 2014, the Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides up to $1000 of benefits (every two calendar years) for basic dental services to eligible children aged 2-17 years, provided through Medicare.

Is my child eligible?
No need to apply or register – any child that becomes eligible for Medicare, is between the ages of 2-17 years old (for at least one day that year), or receives at eligibility payment will receive a letter from Medicare stating that they are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
I didn’t get a letter from Medicare
Since this kids free dental program is capped at $1000 every two calendar years, in January Medicare will check to see if your child is eligible for dental benefits and they will keep checking throughout the year. If your child is eligible they will send you a letter. If you’re not sure, we can help you contact Medicare before your appointment, or you can give them a call on 132 011.

Medicare covers up to $1,000 over two calendar years for basic child dentist services under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. It’s a generous package which covers the basics that most children need. If your child needs dental work beyond this list, our team can talk you through your options and the payment plans we offer.

What’s not included:
- Orthodontic dental work
- Cosmetic dental work
- Any dental services in a hospital
Child Dental Benefits Schedule: The fine print.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,000 per child over two consecutive calendar years. If your child uses less than $1000 on free kids dental services in the first year, the remaining balance will be carried into the second year. Any remaining balance to be allocated for your children’s free dental care will not be carried past the second year.
The two-year period starts:
- at the beginning of the calendar year in which your child becomes eligible and,
- receives their first dental service
